How to do Computer Repair of a Power Supply

If your computer won't turn on and the fan in the back of the power supply does not spin, never fear. The computer repair can be done by your for little money. All you need to do is replace the computer power supply. You can purchase a good 300 watt replacement power supply for between $15 and $25 with SATA connectors. Cheap computer repair!

Step 1

The first step in DIY computer repair is always to unplug the AC power cord and then remove the PC cover. You don't want to get hurt doing your own computer repair! Safety first.

Step 2

Unplug the power supply from the motherboard and from each device.

Step 3

Unscrew the power supply from the case and place the new power supply in the case.

Step 4

Plug the new power supply into the motherboard. Look for a wire which says "PWR SW". It is for the Power Switch. Plug it into its appropriate pin labeled "PWR" on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard pinout that comes with your motherboard manual. Labels vary from motherboard to motherboard.

Step 5

Plug each appropriate labeled wire to its corresponding pins out on the motherboard. PWR-SW is Power Switch. SW-RST is Reset Switch HD-LED is hard drive LED, PWR LED is Power Led.

Step 6

Connect the AC power cord to the Power Supply and then plug it into the wall outlet. If the fan spins in the back of the power supply, everything is fine. Go ahead and plug the power supply into all your drives.

Step 7

Screw the power supply into the case and screw on the PC cover. Then give yourself a pat on the back for saving a money on a computer repair job!
